Recording Yourski Adventures – Getting Your Hands on the Right Equipment

gopro ski tips

If you’ve been on a skiing trip before, you know that a GoPro camera is essential. This little piece of kit is tiny, light and can take high quality videos at the best possible quality. But if you’ve never used a camera before, you may be wondering where to start. In this article I’m going to share with you some great GoPro ski tips that will help you get started quickly.

If you’ve gone skiing before, then you’ll know that there are many different pieces of equipment you need in order to get more from your skiing. One of the key things is a good quality camera, this is because you need to film yourself while skiing. In fact if you have ever done any skiing before you will know that it’s hard work, and it can be really frustrating if you don’t get a camera that can record your every move.

A Good Quality Helmet Mount

The other thing you will need is a good quality helmet mount. You can buy ski helmets that have all kinds of attachments on them, but I recommend getting a helmet mount instead. Helmet mounts are available in a wide range of sizes and are really easy to use. Even if you’ve never done it before, a helmet mount should be no problem.

One of the most important parts of your camera is the recorder, and in this case I recommend a digital recorder. You can either go for the top of the range recording models that cost a fair bit of money, or you can go for one of the cheaper models that are just as good. As with all electronics, the cheaper ones are usually better quality, which is one of the reasons why you should always consider buying one of these cameras instead of paying the full price for a better one.

Camera And Got Your Memory Cards

Once you’ve got your camera and got your memory cards loaded up, you should have everything you need to mount your camera on to your ski boots. The important thing here is to make sure that the boots are appropriate for your skiing equipment. If you’re not sure then just get yourself a pair of cross country skis and a long narrow grip.

These are the sorts of boots you need to be able to safely secure your camera to. Otherwise you risk ‘splashing’ the camera, which is one of the most common reasons people don’t record in the first place!

A Number Of Pictures At Different Angles

The next thing you’ll need to do is to take a number of pictures at different angles. I recommend trying out panning for the best possible results. It’s quite difficult to ski and aim the camera at the same time, so just try a few shots from different angles and see which is better. I would suggest taking a couple of images each day using the same settings – this way you can see which is more enjoyable for you.

After this you simply have to strap the camera to your ski boots. I find that it’s easiest if you get a cable release so you don’t have to worry about disturbing other skiers. Then just set the time and date you want to take the picture and off you go. Make sure you set the correct exposure – the camera has to be as bright as possible for good pictures. Check the manual modes too to make sure you get the most out of the lens.

Final Words

Once you’ve finished you can pop the memory card into the recorder and let your memory card ‘play’. Now all you need to do is to record each photo. At the end of your session, simply delete the ones you don’t want. Then attach your helmet and you’re ready to go. Hopefully these tips will help you get your very own Gopro ski equipment to record those awesome moments.
